Recreational Services

Our wide variety of recreational programs for both women and children help residents adjust to life in a shelter while also building their self-confidence and a sense of community.

Afterschool Programs

The Center was the first organization to offer licensed day care and afterschool services in our shelters. Today a full program of afterschool recreation and educational activities at each of our shelters promotes social interaction and helps children learn. Women can feel confident that they have a safe and nurturing place to leave their children while they attend to the many details required to start a new life.

School Vacation Programs
During school breaks and summer vacations our recreation departments become day camps. Two of our shelters—Women’s Safe Start and Women’s Second Start—operate specialized recreation programs for teens.

Adult and Family Activities

Our recreation programs offer a rich roster of adult and family activities, from yoga classes to field trips, that help participants escape from the many stresses they’re under as they work to transform their lives.
