A WORD OF CAUTION

Someone may be tracking your computer activity. If you are in an abusive relationship, visiting this site may put you at risk.

If you are in danger, please try to use a safer computer that someone abusive does not have direct or remote (hacking) access to.

  • Be extra cautious when using a computer to send emails in which you write about your abusive partner, or, if you do any research about abusive relationships on the internet.
  • Computers are not always safe because they can easily be monitored by your batterer. If your batterer has access to your computer, don’t use it. Instead, use a computer in a public library, a community center, an Internet Café, or in the home of someone you trust.

If you are in danger, please:

  • Call 911
  • Call your local hotline, or
  • Call the U.S. National Domestic Violence Hotline via phone at 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE) or TTY at 1-800-787-3224.
  • Remember that “corded” phones are more private and less interceptable than cordless phones or analog cell phones.
  • Be aware you may not be able to reach 911 using an Internet phone or Internet-based phone service. So you may need to be prepared to use another phone to call 911.
  • Contact your local domestic violence program or shelter to learn about free cell phone donation programs.

The Center Against Domestic Violence works toward a society free of violence and abuse. The Center leads the way by offering education and prevention programs and promoting the well-being and economic independence of survivors of abuse.
