Support Services
Aftercare Services ensure a smooth transition from shelter to independent living by providing supportive counseling, advocacy, material assistance, and referrals to services in a survivor’s new community. Support Groups provide supportive counseling and peer support. The Crime Victims Assistance Program helps survivors apply for funds to replace essential property left behind when domestic violence victims flee their homes, and to pay for counseling or medical services related to domestic violence. The Family Justice Center is the first program of its kind in the nation. Using a “one stop shopping” model, the Family Justice Center offers the services that a victim of domestic violence needs to become a survivor. The Center Against Domestic Violence provides counseling, advocacy and referrals on site. The Bushwick Collaborative is one of six “HomeBase” programs created by the City’s Department of Homeless Services to prevent homelessness. As a partner, the Center Against Domestic Violence provides domestic violence education to staff and support services to victims and survivors. The DoVE (Domestic Violence Empowerment) Initiative, sponsored by the NYC City Council, was designed to improve services to victims by enhancing the infrastructure and linkages of community-based organizations. The Center Against Domestic Violence is responsible for coordinating services in Brooklyn’s Bedford Stuyvesant community. |
